Jock itch happen when a type of fungus called Tinea Cruris grow and spread in the groin area.

Note that, just like ringworm of the skin, it may be contagious and it can sometimes accompany athlete's foot and ringworm.

This is a symptom of jock itch.

 

Are the penis and testicles inflammed and itchy also?

Jock itch usually stays around the creases in the upper thigh and does not involve the testicles or penis.

If the scrotum is inflammed, he or she may be looking at something like candidal intertrigo or lichen simplex chronicus.
