Is it bursitis?

Bursitis is inflammation of the sac called bursa.
Close

This sac is flat and filled with fluid and usually lies between a tendon and skin or bone near joints where tendons or muscles pass over bony projections.

They help with movement and reduce friction between moving parts of the joints. They also provide cushioning where skin, muscles, tendons, and ligaments rub over the bones.

Let's find out if this is what you are looking at.

FYI

Yes?

Try pressing around the shoulder joint.

Do you feel pain or tenderness?

Yes?

Okay. Try moving the shoulder joint.

Any feeling of stiffness or achiness?

Yes?

Is there swelling over the affected shoulder joint?

Yes?
You may be looking at bursitis.

It is adviceable to see a doctor for this because you may need some steroid shots or your doctor may need to drain the fluid from the sac if it is infected and give appropriate antibiotics often against stap. aureus.

Close

The doctor may remove a sample of fluid from the bursa with a needle and have this sample tested for causes of the inflammation such as gout or an infection.

FYI

What about redness over the shoulder joint?

Or feeling warm to touch?

Yes?
Most likely looking at bursitis.

It is adviceable to see a doctor for this. You may need steroid shots or the doctor may need to drain the fluid from the sac if it is infected and give appropriate antibiotics often against stap. aureus.

Try putting on a coat or a jacket.

Is the shoulder painful?

Yes?
We are thinking a possible bursitis.

Oh well.
Those were the signs and symptoms of bursitis.

If none of the signs or symptoms apply to you, you may have just a shoulder sprain or slept on the shoulder in a wrong way.

You could also be looking at injury of nearby tendons, such as the bicep muscles of your arms.
